Proclamation

What does the idea of a flag mean to you? How does flying a flag make you feel connected to your homeland? And what images or icons truly signify the way you feel about your connection to Australia as land and home?

Proclamation is a large-scale art installation at Barangaroo Reserve, flying 250 flags that explore Australians’ diverse ideas about land and country, belonging and possession.

Q. What is Proclamation about?
Proclamation is an observational body of work linking the community and their idea or association of belonging to the land and country; and more specifically the interpretation of land ownership. Proclamation features 250 flags and flag poles installed at Barangaroo Reserve from 8 January to 26 January, 2020. The concept design was created by Aboriginal artist Jacob Nash, and the general public were invited to submit flag designs that speak to their sense of belonging to land and country.
