PAST EVENT
Night parade of one hundred goblins
ART GALLERY OF NSW AND CLOCKFIRE THEATRE COMPANY | AUSTRALIA
WORLD PREMIERE

In Japanese folklore, twilight is the time when the supernatural world awakens, everyday objects become enchanted, and shape shifters and trickster spirits take to the streets.

In Night parade of one hundred goblins, Sydney’s absurdist innovators Clockfire Theatre Company unlock the ghostly realm that lurks alongside our own.

Propelled by the live drumming of multi-instrumentalist Masae Ikegawa (YuNiOn), Night parade… takes the form of a theatrical procession, playfully winding its way past manga-influenced murals by artist and illustrator Kentaro Yoshida.

The journey continues in the lantern-lit world of AGNSW’s blockbuster exhibition Japan supernatural, featuring artworks by Katsushika Hokusai and Takashi Murakami. A heady soundtrack composed by Tokyo-based musician Eiko Ishibashi interweaves with actors performing live murmurings of kyoka, Japanese ‘mad poetry’.

Night parade… is the latest in a series of innovative, highly physical theatre experiences from Clockfire, whose works include The Natural Conservatorium of Wise Women (Sydney Fringe Festival, 2019) and The Grief Parlour (Riverside Theatres, Parramatta).
