Masked crooner Orville Peck gives classic American country music a fabulous theatricality.
In a seductively deep Johnny Cash drawl, Peck celebrates country’s romanticism of lost loves, the open plains and the cowboy ethos, decked out in a Stetson hat and a fringed leather take on the Lone Ranger’s mask.
Dreamy shoegaze melodies, buzzsaw punk riffs, the warm wail of guitars and sharply written three-minute country-punk songs provide the backdrop for Peck’s evocative tales of the North American Badlands.
On the opposite end of the pop spectrum from Old Town Road, Peck’s much-anticipated first Australian tour brings the “yee-haw” agenda and some spectacular Western denim couture to the Magic Mirrors Spiegeltent stage.
